Open-Faced Salsa Burgers Recipe

Serves 4.

1 serving = 1 Protein, 1½ Starch, 1 Extra


454 g ground beef (lean)
½ tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. cumin
1 tsp. chili powder
1 large egg, beaten
12 tbsp. salsa (fat-free)
12 crackers (unsalted), crushed
2 hamburger buns (low-cal)
4 tbsp. sour cream (fat-free)


Mix meat and spices in medium bowl. Add egg and 8 tablespoons of salsa and mix well. Add crushed crackers. Form into 4 patties and grill on BBQ on medium heat or fry in pan coated with non-fat cooking spray for about 10 minutes or until no longer pink inside. Place each burger on half a bun and top with 1 tbsp. of sour cream and salsa.

For a variety in protein or preferred taste, try ground chicken, veggie ground round, extra lean ground pork, beef or sirloin.
