Homemade Bread

Craving bread but worried it’s “off-limits”? Don’t be! Bread can be wholesome fuel for your body, especially when you make it yourself with simple, clean ingredients. This easy whole wheat recipe is perfect - even if you’ve never baked bread before.

Ingredients

3 cups whole wheat flour
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar or honey

2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 ¼ cups warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

1. Activate the yeast: Mix warm water, sugar (or honey), and yeast. Let it sit 5–10 min until foamy.

2. Mix the dough: Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture + olive oil. Stir into a sticky dough.

3. Knead: On a floured surface, knead 8–10 min until smooth and elastic.

4. Rise: Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled.

5. Shape: Punch down, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased pan.

6. Rise again: Cover and let rise 30–45 min.

7. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake 30–35 min until golden and hollow-sounding.

8. Cool & enjoy: Let cool completely before slicing, yum!
